Cafe Balcony

Each month a new visual art exhibit is installed at Café Balcony. All our artists are local talent, and we have featured every kind of art from modern and abstract paintings to photography, collage, and small-scale installations. Featured subjects have included pop culture, emotions, travel, and foreign culture. If you're looking for something new for your apartment or house, many of our artists do also offer their works for sale.

A self-proclaimed obsessive compulsive perfectionist, I use photography to communicate my strong distaste for our present “American” culture.

The selection of photos were taken over the course of a few months using “vintage” cameras and darkroom tools from the 1950's. Most of the cameras are of the range finder and viewfinder type (meaning that the camera either has no automatic focus or distance measuring tool... batteries not included or needed) and are small and quiet enough to capture moments in time without disturbing the natural energy of the event (meaning he can take pictures without people knowing it).

All images were processed and printed using “vintage” tools in my home darkroom: An enlarger, a darkroom timer, a safe light and a few trays filled with “hazardous” chemicals. Film was processed at home as well in my closet using good ol' stainless steel reels and tanks.

I'm a pissed off yuppie with no mission. I seek no public awareness. I have no personal desire to channel through photography other than the need to be efficient. I stay away from the humongous digital SLR camera's that hide the new faces who carry the once respected title of “photographer”. I simply want to make the best use of my time on the planet and channel any and all energy (negative or positive) into something useful (and if I can mix hazardous chemicals and bend light while I'm at it, then all the better!).

I'm an American. A “Santa Monican” born and raised. These are my photos. They are YOUR stories. Enjoy.
